Just because many women go through the process of childbirth, it does not make it a 'simple' process. It's not like getting the common cold. Childbirth means the human body goes through huge changes, and some of these changes are experienced post delivery during recuperation.
These changes can be uncomfortable and very often embarrassing for women. Some just assume what they are experiencing is unique to them and that they shouldn't even mention it. Others just sit through the discomfort on their own.
The human body is an amazing thing and once we understand why it does what it does, we learn not to shame it, and to know that there are steps we can take to alleviate discomfort and to be kinder to ourselves towards the changes the body is going through.
Some of the questions women wonder about after childbirth but may not feel comfortable expressing are:
"Is it normal that
I pee in my pants
sex can be painful
I feel heaviness in my pelvic floor
I don't have much feeling in my pelvic floor at all
Some people, when hearing these concerns from women, may be dismissive and tell you that once you have kids this is what's going to happen, that's just life, live with it.
At My Body My Pilates, we nurture a very different attitude and approach towards our bodies and giving it the health and recovery it needs. And we are standing high up on our soapboxes and saying NO! All these symptoms are not just ´part of life´. It's not something to stuff down and ask women to bear with it with a stiff upper lip.
These experiences while they are not considered ´normal´, they are actually very common. More so than you think.
Most importantly, if you are experiencing these symptoms, know this - You're Not Broken. They are simply messages from the body, telling you what it needs.
The Pelvic Floor
The pelvic floor is intricate and complex.
But, when we boil it down, it’s simply a group of muscles and organs. And this is great news because muscles are capable of, and can easily change. This means your symptoms can also quite easily improve.
Pelvic floor health is important. It’s important to feel in control of your bathroom needs. It’s important to feel that you can and want to be intimate with your partner. It’s also just basically important for the overall health in your body. Poor pelvic health is strongly correlated with back pain, for example. So it's really worth it to pay attention to your pelvic floor health, something that is often neglected.

This is an intro class in which we will do some basic anatomy, discuss common issues and then do corrective exercises to help address them. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how you can optimize your pelvic health and leave with exercises you can begin immediately in the comfort of your own home.
This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about optimizing pelvic and core health.

About the teachers
Katie has been teaching Pilates for over a decade. She is a certified birth and postpartum doula and specializes in optimizing the pelvic floor for better birth experiences and for quicker recovery after birth.
Helen is a comprehensive Pilates instructor, well trained for Pre & Postnatal Pilates and has been working with women during pregnancy and after birth since 2012. Helen has helped many women improve diastasis recti and pelvic health dramatically after birth.
