Clinical Pilates is not a fitness class. It is a precise, evidence-informed approach to movement that helps you recover from injury, manage chronic pain, and restore the way your body functions — so you can get back to doing the things you love.
At My Body My Pilates, Clinical Pilates sessions are led by Helen Zhang, a Pilates Educator with over 10 years of rehabilitation experience. Helen works in coordination with physiotherapist Mari Gish from the Tokyo Clinic Rehabilitation Office to provide a genuinely clinical standard of assessment and care.

What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates differs from regular Pilates in one fundamental way: it starts with you, not a programme. Before any exercise begins, your movement is assessed — your history, your pain patterns, your compensations, and your goals. From this, a targeted programme is built specifically for your needs.
Where regular Pilates aims to strengthen and condition, Clinical Pilates aims to restore. It uses the same equipment and principles but applies them with clinical precision — targeting specific muscle groups, correcting dysfunctional movement patterns, and rebuilding strength safely around an injury or condition.

About Helen Zhang
— Clinical Pilates specialist
Helen Zhang is the founder of My Body My Pilates and a certified Pilates Educator with Balanced Body® — one of the world's most respected Pilates certification bodies. With over 10 years of clinical teaching experience, she has worked with clients managing chronic conditions, musculoskeletal issues, and sports-related injuries.
Helen's own journey into Pilates began with a debilitating knee condition in her late 20s. On her physiotherapist's recommendation she began Pilates, and within a month her pain had resolved — an experience that shaped both her teaching philosophy and her clinical approach. Today she hikes, surfs, and snowboards — and helps clients rediscover the same freedom of movement.
Helen works in collaboration with physiotherapist Mari Gish from the Tokyo Clinic Rehabilitation Office, bringing deep anatomical knowledge, body-reading skills, and a decade of clinical programming expertise to every session.
